Gingerbread: an ancestral tradition in Alsace
Gingerbread is an integral part of Alsace's culinary heritage. Its presence in the region dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks were already making it in their abbeys, inspired by oriental recipes brought back by the Crusaders. Made from flour, honey and precious spices (cinnamon, cloves, aniseed, etc.), it was originally a festive product that was appreciated for its easy storage. Traditionally enjoyed during the Advent period in Alsace, gingerbreads are now a favourite all year round, particularly as a treat alongside a hot drink.

Based in the heart of Alsace and passionate about showcasing the riches our region has to offer, it was a natural choice for the Maison Alsacienne de Biscuiterie to incorporate gingerbreads into its range.
70% Pure Honey Gingerbread, Leckerli, Gingerli… Our spiced biscuits and cakes are unique thanks to their high-quality ingredients: with honey, topped with candied fruit or hazelnut pieces, spiced up with sweet ginger, flavoured with Kirsch, or coated in a chocolate glaze. Of course, we add a special blend of sweet spices to add a kick of warming flavour, including cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and cloves, to name a few (we can’t give our secret recipe away!).
Each little gingerbread is irresistibly soft, revealing a rich depth of flavours, with a kick of heat and a dash of sweetness.

Remaining ever-faithful to our quest to preserve and reinvent local culinary traditions, our pâtissiers have drawn inspiration from typical Alsace and Swiss recipes. Our spiced biscuits are sweet treats made following traditional techniques: we leave the dough to rest for a generous amount of time, which gives it its melt-in-the-mouth texture and allows the full depth of the flavours come into their own. Made using only high-quality ingredients, our specialities offer your tastebuds a harmonious and balanced mix of spices, carefully hand-selected by our Maison.

Our 70% Pure Honey Gingerbread is perfect for any occasion and any taste. The classic version is perfect for enjoying in slices at breakfast or alongside a cup of tea, lathered with a good-quality preserve. For a more original touch, it makes an exceptional addition to savoury dishes: lightly toasted, it reveals the full depth of its flavour alongside foie gras or a good cheese.
