What's the history behind this day dedicated to our maternal figures?

Celebrated in late May in France, Mothers' Day's roots are found in Ancient Greece, where they worshipped Rhea, the goddess of motherhood, fertility and life. The day's current form, which was imported from the other side of the Atlantic during World War One, was eventually instituted in 1926 before being adopted and popularised in France by Maréchal Pétain during the Vichy Regime.
